George B. Mathieson, 61, of Canton, passed away March 7 at Boston Medical Center after a brief illness. Born and raised in Quincy, he attended Quincy High School and Bath Hyde School in Maine. He went on to attend Babson College and graduated from UMass Boston.

George MathiesonHe previously worked as the director of development for Brockton Hospital and was currently working as director of development for Volunteers of America-Massachusetts in Jamaica Plain. He previously lived in Quincy and has lived in Canton for the last 28 years, where he was a member of the Canton Lions Club, Knights of Columbus Council #2095, an active member and eucharistic minister at St. Gerard Majella Church, and a member of the Milton Hoosic Club.

Beloved husband of Susan J. (Donnelly). Father of John E. and his fiancé, Jen Kelly, Kevin G. and Emily J., all of Canton. Brother of the late Alyce Winslow, John “Jay” Mathieson and Joanne Maynor.

A funeral mass is being celebrated Thursday, March 10, at 10 a.m. in St. Gerard Majella Church, 1860 Washington Street. Burial St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Volunteers of America, 441 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.
