Charles W. FordCharles W. Ford, age 96, a lifelong resident of Canton, passed away at the Hellenic Nursing Home in Canton January 18. Born in Boston, he was raised in Canton and graduated from St. John’s High School. He also attended court stenography classes at Boston University and attended Northeastern University.

He was an Army veteran of WWII, and during the war he served as a stenographer for the Secretary of War, Henry Stimson, and in this position traveled throughout Canada, Iceland, the United Kingdom, and North Africa. He later worked as the court stenographer for Suffolk Probate Court for many years and also worked as the stenographer at the Canton town meetings starting in 1951 for many years. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2095 in Canton and the Canton Senior Men’s Club.

Beloved husband of Agatha L. (DiBella). Father of Charles Gregory Ford of Brookline, Bruce Ford of Onset, and John F. Ford and his wife, Amy, of Canton. Grandfather of Matthew, Sgt. Ryan USMC, Timothy, and Devin Ford, and Jessica Diaz and her husband, Angel. Great-grandfather of Isaiah Diaz.

A funeral mass was held Saturday morning, January 22, in St. John the Evangelist Church. Interment Canton Corner Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to the Canton Veterans Service Department, 801 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021. Arrangements by the Dockray and Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street.
