Girls’ hockey team tops Westwood

By

The Canton High girls’ hockey team sailed to an easy 4-0 victory against Westwood last week, improving the girls’ season record to 2-1.

“Westwood has definitely improved since last year and at points had us running around in our zone,” coach Kelly Rider said. “But overall we were able to outplay them.”

Sophomore transfer Bethany Kelly scored her first goal as a Bulldog. Juniors Michelle McNeil and Stephanie Rizzitano, and sophomore Meaghan McKenna netted one goal each. Senior goalie Sarah Healey also had her first shutout of the season.

Rider said the girls didn’t play as consistent against Westwood as they did last week against Medfield. But, she added, “We had moments of greatness.”

The girls had more support in the stands than usual with the Canton 12U team playing in between periods and a sizeable number of CHS graduates returning for the alumni game that followed the game against Westwood.

Results of today’s game against Duxbury will appear in next week’s Citizen.
