CHS golfers finish 9th in Division 2 south tourney

By

The young CHS golf team finished ninth out of 15 teams in the Division 2 South golf tournament on a cold, windy day in Franklin last week. Two seniors, a junior, and a sophomore were among the top Bulldogs.
It was the first time in three years that a Canton team had  qualified for the tournament.

Coach Jim Spillane said that while the Bulldog scores on the par 71, 18-hole course were good, they were not consistent. “But we had a good showing,” he added. “We certainly were happy to get to the tournament, and it was a great experience for our kids.”

Junior Mike Lamir scored an 84, followed by senior Glenn Kaplan with an 85, sophomore Rich Nee at 93, and senior Bryan Gorham with a 94.

Canton finished the season with a 166-172 victory over the visiting Oliver Ames Tigers. The Bulldogs finished at 8-5 and were undefeated on their home course.

In other news, Kaplan was named to the league all-star team.
