Shot-putter Njoku finishes 20th at New Englands

CHS senior Amarachi Njoku finished 20th among 31 shot-put competitors at the New England Track and Field Championships held Saturday, June 12, in New Britain, Connecticut. Top individuals from all six New England states competed.

Njoku’s best throw was 35 feet, nine and a half inches. Rachel Aliotta of Connecticut won the event with a 45-foot throw. 

Prior to the New Englands, Njoku placed second in the All States, throwing 37 feet, nine and a quarter inches. She also finished second in the Hockomock League meet, throwing 37 feet, two inches, and won the Class C Meet with a 36-foot, six-inch throw.

In other news, the CHS boys’ team participated in a decathlon at Bishop Feehan High School. According to coach Ben Mattson, the Bulldogs were represented by two teams and reported good results from both.

A team of Jon Vaughn, Christian Bates and Matt Sidney came in third overall and another team of Chris Boughter, Jared Hobbs and Tom Kerikas also performed very well. Vaughn finished in second place with 5,626 points. Sidney came in 11th with 5,110 points, and Bates came in 28th with 4,523 points.
