The CHS girls’ outdoor track team placed fifth in the Hockomock League’s two-day championship meet in Wrentham last week. Canton finished six points behind fourth-place North Attleboro.

The team was led by veterans Anna Amico, Vicky Tondre, and Colleen Healy in the running events, and Chidimma Nwankwo, Amarachi Njoku, and Radiya Buchanan in the field events.

“The girls competed very well with many of them running personal bests,” CHS coach Conor Sheehan said. “The league championship is always a tough one, but the girls never backed down.”

Several Bulldogs will be moving on to the Class C Championships at Oliver Ames on Saturday.

Tondre finished second overall in the finals of the 200-meter dash at 26.49 seconds, just .44 of a second behind the winner.

Both followed with high placements in the discus. Nwankwo placed second at 107 feet, seven inches, and Njoku was seventh at 92 feet, five inches. Jess Raymond also competed and finished 21st at 66 feet, five inches.
