Relay teams finish strong in state meet

By

Last weekend went well for the CHS boys’ indoor track relay teams as the 4×200 and 4×800 groups both qualified for the Class C State Meet, finishing among the top seven teams in the state relay event.

The 4×200 team finished second overall behind Jon Vaughn, Jordan Guyton, Tyler Briggs and Marty Fauche.

Also finishing second was the high jump relay team of Matt Sidney, Vaughn and Fauche with a cumulative jump of 17 feet, one inch. Vaughn and Fauche each jumped five feet, five inches — both personal bests— while Sidney jumped an outstanding height of six feet, three inches.

Finishing fifth was the sprint medley relay of Christian Bates, Guyton, Fauche and Vaughn. The 4×800 relay team ran well and finished seventh behind Bates, Nikita Amelchenko, Joey Ward, and Vlad Leopard.

While the shot put relay did not score, coach Chris Elgar noted the efforts of sophomore Chris Walker, who enjoyed a personal best throw of over 37 feet.

The distance medley unit of Jimmy Paschal, Gautam Madineedi, Chris Ha, and Mike Bronstein finished 15th overall.

Elgar also praised the work of the 4×200 B team of Derek Seto, Evan Feldman, Jared Hobbs and Alex Lenkei.

The 4×400 team turned in its fastest time (3:55.62) of the season behind Sidney, Briggs (his first ever 400-meter race), Tom Kerikas and Emyr Remy.
