More than 950 students, parents and community members turned out for Canton’s inaugural STEAM Exposition, held Monday evening, May 20, in conjunction with the opening of the PreK-12 Annual Spring Art Show.

The event featured over 30 interactive exhibits and booths, with representation from local corporations as well as Canton students and teachers.

Children of all ages had the opportunity to score points by launching marshmallows, make shadow prints in the photography room, learn how turbines worked, watch robotics teams in action, send original designs down zip lines, and figure out how to make the perfect paper airplane.

The Canton Public Schools has emerged as a local leader in the STEAM movement, which emphasizes the connections between Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.

***

For more on the first STEAM Expo, check out our six-page “Salute to the Fine Arts” included in this week’s issue of the Citizen.
