Police Chief Ken Berkowitz said during the search for the man and “out of an abundance of caution,” he placed officers at the Hansen and Galvin schools and St. Gerard’s Church and ordered temporary school lockdowns.

Terrell Johnson, of Miami, Florida, was arrested at 1:25 p.m. and faces Canton police charges of malicious destruction of property over $1,200 and a previous State Police charge of driving without a license. He may also face additional charges for fleeing from the State Police.

Berkowitz said the suspect was initially stopped on Route 128 before fleeing the scene and heading onto University Avenue. State Police called the Canton PD and the lockdown procedures and additional officers were put into place. Police received reports that the suspect was in the area of Pecunit and Washington streets, Adrienne Drive, and the area around St. Gerard’s Church. State police canine dogs were used in the search.

“The public was never in danger and it was in an abundance of caution that we called for the additional officers at the school and the temporary school lockdowns,” said Berkowitz.
