DiTroia, Susan G.

By

Susan G. DiTroia (Goubeaux), 77, of Canton, passed away March 22 after a brief illness.

Born and raised in Greenville, OH, she graduated from Greenville High School and attended Hanover College in Indiana and graduated from University of St. Louis where she fell in love with Bissinger’s Chocolates and stayed on their mailing list until her death.

Susan appreciated beauty, especially when combined with laughter and time spent with family. For over a decade she made an annual pilgrimage to the week-long Brimfield Antique Show with all four of her sisters, earning first name recognition from many of the dealers.

Susan and her daughter spent countless happy hours looking at and shopping for beautiful clothes, and bargains, from the back room at Loehmann’s to the Bon Marche in Paris. She enjoyed skiing with her husband and visited every ski resort in Europe and many out west in the United States. Susan’s life was also enriched through her long-term friendships and membership in her book club and garden club.

Susan was the beloved wife for over 50 years of Joseph F., who was the great love of her life. She is mother to Sarah T. Di Troia of Cambridge, whose marriage to husband John Buten brought her no end of joy. David H. Di Troia, her son, died in 1996, which was the profound sadness of Susan’s life. Susan refused to leave Massachusetts in her retirement in order to be close to her grandchildren, Rosemary Di Troia and Oliver Buten, who she loved deeply and was fiercely proud. Susan was part of a close-knit family and is survived as well by her siblings Jim Goubeaux of Chicago, IL, Ann Bagnoli of St. Paul, MN, Jane Goubeaux of Mashpee, MA, Linda Grunow of Old Greenwich, CT, and Jill Clark of Cleveland, OH.

Susan’s life will be celebrated in a private family gathering and her ashes will be buried with those of her son. Please honor her memory with gifts in her name to CrisisTextLine.com or by raising a glass of chardonnay. For guestbook, see dockrayandthomasfuneralhome.com.
