McHugh, Peter

By

Peter McHugh, 67, of Canton, passed away suddenly at home on Monday, February 25, 2019.

Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Clark, and children Alison and Matthew McHugh. He is the dear brother of the late Paula Vinton and husband Raymond (Hull), Patricia McHugh and husband Steven Best (Brockton), Christine McHugh (Brockton), Catherine Quigg and husband Billy (Pembroke), Cora McHugh (Milton), Virginia Scanlon (Canton), John McHugh (Thailand), Paul McHugh and wife Christine (Mansfield), and many nieces and nephews.

Peter grew up in Dorchester and Milton, attended Xaverian, Hull High School, and graduated from Milton High School. He graduated from Boston State College, which subsequently merged with UMass Boston, and had a long successful career in sales, representing Fujifilm in New England and later in corporate sales for Da-Lite. He was a wine connoisseur, an excellent cook, a talented photographer, and an early adopter of technology.

He survived a major battle with advanced oral cancer 20 years ago thanks to Dana-Farber and a strong will to be there for his very young family. For all of his accomplishments, Peter was most proud of his family. He and Susan celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary last May. In recent years the family traveled to London for Christmas, to Costa Rica, and last fall to Australia. Peter regularly attended and photographed his children’s many sports games and other activities over the years. He saw Alison graduate from the College of William and Mary; Matthew will graduate from Plymouth State this May.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 2, at 11:30 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Church in Milton. Visiting hours at Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, on Friday, March 1, from 4-8 p.m. Burial private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peter’s memory to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284, or via www.dana-farber.org/gift.
