Mike Loughran launches campaign for BOS

By

Mike Loughran, the current vice chairman of the Canton School Committee, has announced his candidacy for the open two-year seat on the Board of Selectmen in the upcoming April 2 election.

Born and raised in Canton, Loughran attended Canton Public Schools and played sports on Canton’s fields. When it came time to raise his family, Canton was an easy choice. While his children were young, he served as a member of both the JFK and GMS school councils. He served on the Finance Committee, acting as the liaison to the schools, Fire Department and Police Department. Most recently, Loughran was elected to two terms on the School Committee, where he served as both vice chairman and chairman. As a member of the School Committee, he worked on impactful projects, including hiring of the superintendent, launch of the facilities master plan, and free full-day kindergarten.

In 2012, Loughran started Girls’ Fast-Pitch Softball with a few parents and served on the board of directors for Canton Little League as the vice president of softball. Currently, he serves as the treasurer for Little League and continues to work on projects to improve our fields for all of our kids such as fencing, dugouts, scoreboards, and field lights. He is proud of the growth of the program and he continues to work on new projects such as the restroom and snack shack facility to be built on the JFK fields, new dugouts for Tilden and Walsh fields, and hopefully a new bathroom facility at lower Memorial Field.

Loughran is a tireless and dedicated community leader who has invested many years advocating for our children through the School Committee and through athletics. He has demonstrated his ability to work with various groups and town leaders to get projects done. As selectman, he will work diligently on upcoming town projects such as the rebuild of the rink, the Paul Revere Heritage Site, and the town pool. Loughran looks forward to earning the voters’ support.

He is asking for your vote on April 2 so that he may continue to work with the residents of Canton, fellow boards and town leaders on the common goal of moving Canton into the future, based on the high standards we deserve.
