O’Keefe, Betty A.

By

Betty A. O’Keefe (Donohue), 91, of Canton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 11, 2018, after an unexpected and short battle with cancer.

Betty was born in New York City where she lived until three years ago, when she moved to Canton into the home of her daughter, Deborah.

Widowed at a young age with two children, she joined the accounting department of SAS (Scandinavian Airlines), where she worked for over 20 years. She had the opportunity to travel overseas and enjoyed sharing this with her children. Her loving presence and strength of character greatly contributed to the lives of her two children, who feel so fortunate to have had her guidance in their lives. Her three grandchildren are equally thankful for her loving ways and her presence at all their important events. On an annual basis, when young, they would spend several weeks exploring theatre, parks, and museums in New York City with their devoted grandmother. Betty traveled to Canton often to care for her granddaughter Alexa.

She was recognized by all who knew her as a woman of independent spirit, determination, competence, as well as elegant, smart and kind.

Beloved wife of the late David P. O’Keefe. Mother of Deborah A. O’Keefe, MD, of Canton, and David P. O’Keefe and his wife, Karen, of Bloomington, New York. Also survived by three grandchildren: Julia O’Keefe Bucco and her husband, Todd, of Chicago, David P. O’Keefe and his wife, Chae, of Atlanta, and Alexa Madeloff of California. She has one great-grandchild, Eleanor Ada O’Keefe.

A memorial service will be held in the summer in New York.
