Edward V. McCarthy, 86, of Canton, formerly of Falmouth and Jamaica Plain, passed away December 2 at Cornerstone in Canton surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Jamaica Plain, he graduated from the High School of Commerce, attended Boston University, and served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a furniture contractor and operated his own business, McCarthy Brother’s Furniture in Jamaica Plain, for many years before retiring. He has lived in Canton for the last nine years and previously lived in Falmouth. Ed was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed golf and summering in Falmouth.

Beloved husband of the late Noreen M. (Kane). Father of Edward V. McCarthy, Jr. and his wife, Jeanne, of Canton, Thomas A. McCarthy and his wife, Maura, of Glen Rock, NJ, Joseph G. McCarthy and his wife, Leslie, of Duxbury, John P. McCarthy and his wife, Carolann, of Westwood, and Maura K. Polles and her husband, Rick, of Canton. Brother of the late Jack and Iggy McCarthy. Also survived by 17 grandchildren.

A funeral mass was held Thursday in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Burial St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury. Donations may be made in his memory to the Shrine of St. Jude, 2390 Bush St., San Francisco, CA 94115. Arrangements by the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street.
