News Notes: No one hurt in downed wires incident

Firefighters responded to an emergency call for power lines down on a box truck at 323 Turnpike Street on Thursday, August 23, around 11:30 a.m. According to Fire Lt. Tom Norton, Engine 2 arrived to find the wires on top of the truck and the driver and a passenger still inside the vehicle. After determining that the occupants were not injured, firefighters advised the men to remain calm and stay inside the vehicle until the power lines were de-energized. Eversource responded to the scene to kill the power and the men were able to safely leave their vehicle.

Canton firefighters also responded to two mutual aid calls last Thursday — one for a working fire at a residence off Blue Hill Avenue in Milton and another for a two-alarm fire in Avon. Engine 2 provided assistance in Milton and Engine 3 responded to Avon and helped to extinguish the fire. There were no injuries reported in either incident.

For the week of August 20-26, the Canton Fire Department responded to service 85 calls, including one opioid-related call. The victim, a 55-year-old male, was successfully treated with Narcan.

Motorist injured in York St. rollover crash

A section of York Street near Oxbow Road was closed for several hours following a motor vehicle rollover on Saturday, August 25, around 11 a.m. The driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Deputy Police Chief Helena Rafferty said the driver had apparently suffered a medical emergency, which was the cause of the accident.

Pleasant Street closures begin Sept. 4

Starting on Tuesday, September 4, the day after Labor Day, Pleasant Street will be closed to through traffic from Sherman Street to Washington Street for repair work on the Reservoir Pond Dam. Traffic will be diverted to Washington Street for the duration of the project, which is expected to last for about two and a half months …
