Joseph F. “Smokin Joe” Donnelly, 69, of Canton, passed away unexpectedly November 29.

Born and raised in Brighton, he graduated from Catholic Memorial High School and Boston State College. Joe worked as an account manager for the Radisson Hotel in Boston for 13 years before retiring. He previously worked for the Massachusetts Lottery as an account manager and worked as the assistant manager for the Ice House in Canton after retiring. Joe was the president of Canton Cable Television, past president and coach of Canton Youth Hockey, and was the voice of Canton High School Hockey on Cable 8 for the last 20 years. Joe’s stage name was “Smokin Joe” and his passion was playing the guitar and singing at local Canton pubs and his friends’ homes. His two greatest joys were traveling with his wife and playing with his grandchildren.

Beloved husband of Janet L. (Thyne). Father of Joanna L. D’Agostino and her husband, Joseph, of Franklin, and Christopher J. Donnelly and his wife, Leigh, of New York City. Grandfather of Kathryn, Carly and Emma D’Agostino. Son of Mary K. Donnelly of Falmouth and the late Joseph F. Donnelly. Brother of Michael C. Donnelly and his wife, Carolyn, of NC, Brian P. Donnelly and his wife, Kathryn, of Acton, Maribeth Wadman and her husband, John, of Falmouth, and Laurand M. Bryant and her husband, David, of Framingham.

A funeral mass was held Monday in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Burial private. Donations in Joe’s memory may be made to Canton Youth Hockey, P.O. Box 215, Canton, MA 02021.
