Resident seeks answers after paving nightmare

By

Dear Editor:

On Monday, November 13, someone made the decision to pave Messinger and Walnut streets. Okay, but what explains the decision to pave Rockland and Mechanic streets at the same time, making it physically impossible for any resident to get home or for school buses, mail deliveries, UPS, etc. to get through. This was a huge mistake on someone’s part.

We were going from Walnut to Messinger, Rockland then Mechanic Street speaking with each officer and they were very nice and apologetic, but it wasn’t their fault. We finally were able to sneak down Mechanic Street and told our woe to another very nice officer who let us sneak down Rockland Street to Belcher, then we were stopped again. The next officer said that we could go down quick because they were going to start paving the other side of Walnut. This officer should be commended because he walked each child down Walnut Street to their respective parent (since the school bus couldn’t get through).

I am afraid we didn’t get any of the officers’ names, but they should be commended for a splendid job they did. Again the officers apologized for the disruption, but it is not their fault why four connecting streets had to be paved at the same time. We don’t know who was in charge of this, but next time please think about the decision you make and how residents are supposed to maneuver around the detours.
