Canton’s Goyetch competes in D2 state golf finals
By Mike BergerCHS senior golfer Jack Goyetch wrapped up a stellar four-year golf career last week with a solid showing at the Division 2 state finals at Highfields Golf & Country Club in Grafton.
The only CHS golfer to qualify for the event, Goyetch shot an 88 over 18 holes to finish 39th overall out of 51 competitors. The wind was a factor in the match and the scores were higher across the board, according to CHS head coach Mike Barucci.
“Jack played very well and bounced back after a few tough holes,” Barucci said. “His score does not indicate how well he handled himself in tough conditions, never giving up when things weren’t going well. He had a great season and being a state finalist is an incredible accomplishment.”
In addition to qualifying for the state finals, Goyetch posted top 10 finishes this season at both the Hockomock League Championships and the Division 2 south sectional tournament. He also shot two rounds under par during the regular season and helped guide the Bulldogs to a 13-1 record and a Hockomock Davenport Division title.
