DCR announces public meeting on Blue Hills deer management program

By

On Wednesday, August 23, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., the state Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and Department of Fish and Game (DFG) will host a public meeting to provide an overview of outcomes from the 2016 Deer Management Program, review findings from recent deer abundance surveying, and provide information on the proposed Deer Management Plan for 2017. The meeting will take place in the Milton High School auditorium, 25 Gile Road in Milton.

The public meeting will be an opportunity for members of the public to learn more about DCR’s deer management efforts in the Blue Hills and to provide input and comment on the 2017 Deer Management Plan. DCR and DFG have issued a single report outlining the logistics, operations, and harvest results of last year’s controlled hunt; the results of deer abundance surveying conducted earlier this year; and the proposed Deer Management Plan for 2017. A pdf copy of the full report can be found at mass.gov/eea/agencies/dcr/massparks/blue-hills-controlled-deer-hunt.html.

The presentation from the public meeting will be viewable after August 23 at mass.gov/eea/agencies/dcr/public-outreach/public-meetings.

Anyone wishing to submit written comments may do so online at mass.gov/eea/agencies/dcr/public-outreach/submit-public-comments, or by writing to the Department of Conservation and Recreation, Office of Public Outreach, 251 Causeway Street, 6th Floor, Boston, MA 02114. The deadline for receipt of written comments is Thursday, August 31.

If you have questions or concerns or would like to be added to an email list to receive DCR general or project-specific announcements, please email Mass.Parks@state.ma.us or call 617-626-4973.
