CHS track competitive at D3 championships

The boys 4×400 relay team and senior Mohammad Sambo were Canton High’s highest finishers in the Division 3 Eastern Mass. Championship Meet held Sunday in Burlington.

The relay team finished fifth overall with a season-best time of 3:32.23 behind John Guenthner, Shane Graham, Sambo, and Colin Milne. Sambo finished seventh overall in the 400m with a time of 51:42. Graham also competed and finished with a personal-best time of 52.26.

Other CHS competitors on the boys’ side included Guenthner (11th) and Riley McDonnell (15th) in the 400m hurdles and Jack Healey (14th) and Colin Messinger (19th) in the two-mile race. For the girls team, CHS participants included Erika Lum, 11th, high jump; Sarah Collins, 17th, 400m hurdles; Jimisha Williams, 17th, 200m; and Nicole Brown, 23rd, 100m.

Canton was also well represented in the relay races with the girls 4×400 placing 17th behind Brown, Claire Belisle, Maggie Dunn, and Kristina Powers and the girls 4×100 finishing 20th behind Lum, Williams, Belisle and Brown.

The boys 4×100 finished 19th behind Dan Pierre, Steven Brady, Mike Marino and McDonnell, and the 4×800 also finished 19th behind Healey, Matt Floyd, Messinger and Gerry Sullivan.

Commenting on the team’s overall performance, head coach Anna Amico said, “This group of athletes competed hard in the very competitive Division 3 meet, which features a lot of top talent statewide.”
