Junior pitcher Robbie Wilkinson scattered eight hits and limited Sharon batters to one run as the CHS baseball team won its fifth game with a 7-1 victory over the Eagles last week.

This marked the third consecutive start that Wilkinson has allowed one run or less and he is now among the leaders in the Davenport Division with a 1.41 earned run average.

Head coach Greg Digirolamo said Wilkinson has great control, throws strikes, and is very efficient as a pitcher. The Canton offense also clicked in the win over Sharon as they combined for 11 hits while scoring two runs in the first inning, three in the second, and two more in the sixth. Danny Hartnett and Matt Pigeon each had three hits and Matt Casamento added two hits. The Canton infield defense also had a good day, turning two double plays.

Hartnett had a big week at the plate — collecting seven hits in three games — and has raised his average to near .400 for the season.

The Bulldogs then faced Foxboro at home and stormed back from two deficits, but it wasn’t enough as the Warriors outlasted the Bulldogs 9-7. The difference in the game were the four Canton errors, which led to three unearned runs.

“No doubt the errors hurt us,” said Digirolamo. “When we play solid defensive baseball, we win most games.”

Hartnett led the offense with three more hits and two RBIs.

In other action recent, the Bulldogs fell to Stoughton 7-0 on Monday, May 22, on the Black Knights’ Senior Day. The visitors committed five errors and were limited to three hits.

Canton (5-12) was due to close out the season on Wednesday, May 24, with a road game against Cohasset.
