CHS softball team still battling amid struggles

By

The Canton High softball team remains in search of its first win after losing twice last week to fall to 0-9 overall. But head coach Jen Robillard said the record does not tell the whole story of how the team has improved since the first practice of the year.

“Their play on the field, defensively and at the plate, has greatly improved,” she said. “The results will get better. The girls are working hard at it.”

In last Monday’s 23-5 loss to Foxboro, freshman Caroline Hughes, a pitcher and third baseman, had a great game offensively with two singles and two doubles. Three other Canton batters added two hits each, including Evelyn and Taylor Carrington and Molly Loughran. Freshman shortstop Jackie Howard also played well defensively and finished with six assists on the day.

The lady Bulldogs have a busy schedule this week with five games in six days, including an away game today at Stoughton and a home doubleheader against Boston Latin Academy on Saturday. The girls will then host North Attleboro next Monday and travel to Milford on Wednesday, May 10.
