School and municipal leaders participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, December 19, to mark the opening of the Hansen Elementary School addition. Funded by a $4.1-million debt-exclusion override, the two-story addition replaces four outdated modular classrooms with eight permanent classrooms. The project also included the installation of a new fire suppression system throughout the school building as well as a new loop around the building for fire truck access.

Pictured above at the ribbon cutting are (front row, l-r) Hansen Principal David Brauninger, Robert McCarthy of the Building Renovation Committee, School Committee Chairman John Bonnanzio, Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Fischer-Mueller, Selectmen Chairman Bob Burr, Selectmen Vice Chairman Mark Porter, second grader Su-ad Mariko; (back row, l-r) School Business Administrator Barry Nectow, and School Committee Vice Chairman Michael Loughran.  Michelle Stark photo
