L-R: Character Crew members Emily Fabbiano, Kelsey Irons, Jackson Maffeo, Nicole Poole and Maria Mackie accept the Champions of Wellness Award from the MIAA.

The Canton Character Crew, a high school peer leadership program founded by K-12 Wellness Coordinator Ryan Gordy, was honored last month with the MIAA Champions of Wellness Student Award — a prestigious honor given to a student or group that exemplifies healthy life choices and demonstrates leadership within their school community. The Character Crew received the award at the 20th annual MIAA Wellness Summit, held on October 28 in Westborough. Following the award presentation, a group of approximately 20 CCC members led an interactive workshop that focused on spreading the power of positive peer pressure and school culture. Other CCC members attended workshops led by students from other schools, with topics ranging from effective leadership to the dangers of drugs and alcohol. The CCC members were active participants and took away many valuable lessons from each of the events.
