For the first time this year, the CHS football team enjoyed a dominant win over an opponent, leading from wire to wire and playing all of its reserves in the fourth quarter en route to a 42-16 victory over Oliver Ames at home Friday night.

The win was Canton’s second in as many games and improved the team’s record to 3-6 overall.

The Bulldogs ran and threw successfully throughout the game, opening a 35-8 lead at the half and leading 42-8 after three quarters.

Head coach Dave Bohane alternated his two senior quarterbacks, Dan Dillon and Dennis Ross, and both played well. Bohane said he would continue this practice as each brings different skills to the team.

The Bulldogs’ rushing attack tallied 282 total yards, led by Joe Mulkay, who had a season-high 98 yards on six carries. Alec Ragusa scored three touchdowns and gained 53 yards on the day. Ross scampered for 48 yards and Dillon ran for 33, including a 17-yard touchdown run up the middle. Mike Marino also chipped in with 40 tough inside yards on the ground.

Receiver–cornerback Tony Harris had two interceptions and also had a spectacular 69-yard touchdown catch and run in which he outfought two defenders for the ball, gained possession, put a couple of moves on some defenders, and raced into the end zone for the score.

Defensively, the Canton secondary did a good job in neutralizing the Tigers’ passing attack. The Bulldog defense had only one bad series as Tiger runner Liston Funal ran 40 yards up the middle in the second quarter for a touchdown.

Thomas Monagle led the defense with five tackles and Brian Smith recorded a sack.

Bohane said this was the third consecutive game that he has seen significant improvement. “I think the players are understanding our schemes, the plays, and going out and executing them,” he said. “There is a lot of progress in a lot of areas.”

Prior to kickoff, the Bulldogs honored their senior players: Ross, Mulkay, Marino, Monagle, Dillon, Smith, Dan Alice, Dan Pierre, Ben Paolillo, Jormani Feliz, Aidan Hogan, Mark Whalen, and EJ Dummott.

Also honored were senior cheerleaders Kerry Flavin, Hannah Morin, Bella Ruggeri, Emily Fabbiano, and Katherine Pineo.

The Bulldogs will look to keep their winning streak alive when they travel to Plymouth South for a Thursday night matchup starting at 7 p.m. The team will then wrap up its season on Thanksgiving Day with an away game against traditional rival Stoughton at 10 a.m.
