Man About Canton: Another Deer Hunt

By

Did you know …

State wildlife officials are proposing another deer hunt in the Blue Hills over six days in November and December to cull deer from the 7,000-acre reservation. This year’s proposal would allow 117 shotgun hunters, and for the first time, 23 archery hunters during each two-day segment for a total of 420 hunters. Last year the state proposed 196 shotgun hunters for the hunt, which spanned only four days. A lottery will be used to select the 420 hunters, more than twice as many as last year. The state’s 2015 deer management plan called for controlled hunts through 2024 and beyond. Archery will be permitted only in a designated area of the reservation, and hunters will be able to use either bows and arrows or shotguns, not both. Last year, the four-day hunt yielded only 64 deer, including 47 female deer. This year’s hunts would take place on November 29 and 30, December 5 and 6, and December 8 and 9.

MAC’s recent article on bullying included many factual points. On the Facebook page “Everything Canton,” there were over 100 comments on the subject. It is obvious that a lot of buried and not-so-buried childhood trauma came up as a result of the article. Some people had bullying issues and some didn’t. A bullying problem continues when parents look the other way and refuse to believe their child does anything wrong instead of talking it out between the parents and the kids and trying to diffuse a volatile situation. Instead they let it drag out and make it worse for everyone involved, especially the bullied child. Parents have little control over what happens in school, and they depend on the teachers and school officials to reprimand and deal with the bullies. MAC hopes that school officials step up and stop the bullying that is going on, especially at the middle school level.

Look at the manners of others and mend your manners.
