State Representative Walter F. Timilty (D-Milton) announced on Friday his candidacy to represent the Norfolk, Bristol and Plymouth Distract in the Massachusetts State Senate.

timilty senate“I am excited to formally declare my candidacy for the state senate,” Timilty stated. “It has been an honor to serve in the House of Representatives, yet serving a larger constituency in a smaller body will afford me greater opportunities to make lasting contributions to our communities.”

Timilty, who was first elected to the House in 1998, has been re-elected to represent the people of Milton and Randolph eight times. During those years, he has said that he has found his greatest satisfaction and success in direct constituent services and in his hands-on work on several key committees, particularly the committees on Ways and Means, Veterans and Federal Affairs, Municipalities and Regional Government, Revenue and Public Safety.

“My years of committee work, especially those on the committee on Ways and Means, have helped me develop a solid grasp of not only the issues we face in Massachusetts but the manner in which we can address these issues through the legislative process,” he said. “I hope to have the opportunity to use this experience to serve the people of the Norfolk, Bristol and Plymouth District.”

The district includes the town of Canton as well as Milton, Randolph, Avon, Stoughton, West Bridgewater, Braintree precincts 1, 1A, 2 and 2A, Sharon precincts 2 and 3, Easton precincts 3 to 6, and East Bridgewater precinct 4.

Timilty will be hosting a campaign kick-off event on Thursday, May 19, from 7-11 p.m. at the Irish Cultural Center, located at 200 New Boston Drive in Canton. All are welcome.
