Canton girl, 6, dies after being struck by tree limb

By

A six-year-old Canton girl who was struck by a tree limb earlier today has died, according to multiple news reports.

The girl, identified as Kaleigh Kenyon, was reportedly playing in her backyard on Indian Lane when the tree limb struck her. A neighbor was performing CPR on her when first responders arrived shortly after 2 p.m. and she was rushed to Good Samaritan Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said heavy wet snow caused the tree limb to snap and fall approximately 35 feet onto the girl. There were also several other reports of downed trees and power lines across Canton on Friday, and police sent a Reverse 911 call around 3 p.m. urging residents to stay indoors. Police also delivered the warning via Twitter, asking people to “please stay indoors, especially children.”

“Numerous trees and branches are coming down, creating an extremely dangerous situation,” the alert read.
