Canton resident Christopher Murray, a senior captain and starting midfielder for the Worcester Polytechnic Institute men’s soccer team, was recently named to the All-Conference Second Team in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) for the second consecutive season.

A 2012 graduate of Canton High School, Murray tied for seventh in the conference with seven goals, including three game-winners, and was tied for sixth with 18 points. In addition to his game-winner at Clark, Murray scored against Emerson and provided the lone goal in the NEWMAC quarterfinal at Springfield. In all, Murray notched seven multiple-point games with a season-best four in the Worcester City Tournament against Worcester State. In all, he deposited 19 goals and handed out 15 helpers for 53 points with eight game-winners in 70 games played.

A multi-sport star athlete during his time with the Bulldogs, Murray is regarded as one of the best boys soccer players to ever come out of Canton High and was the first in program history to be named an Adidas All-American. He also won the Hockomock League MVP award as a senior and finished his career with 18 goals and 34 assists.

WPI went 11-7-2 overall and 3-3 in the NEWMAC this season under head coach Brian Kelley. The Engineers took nationally ranked Brandeis and Amherst to double overtime in a span of five matches that included a total of seven extra sessions and back-to-back OT wins at Clark (2OT) and Salve Regina.
