Song places 4th at Hockomock ChampionshipsBy Mike Berger
Senior cross country standout Catherine Song was the top Canton finisher at the Hockomock League Championships held Saturday at the Wrentham Developmental Center. Song, who placed second in last year’s league meet, finished an impressive fourth this season with a time of 20:00.03.
A two-time captain and league all-star, Song will look to continue her run of success in the postseason and improve on last year’s performance, which included a 12th place finish at sectionals.
As for the Hockomock meet, the Canton girls placed 10th as a team while the boys finished 12th.
On the girls side, Song was followed by Ally Chin with a time of 24:05, Margaret Polsgrove (24:35), Olivia Stevens (24:38), and Chloe Pennacchio (24:41). The boys were led by senior Mark Clancy, who finished 39th overall with a time of 18:11. He was followed by Jack Healey (18:42), Thomas Cahill (19:21), Andrew Salvatori (19:25), and Colin Messenger (19:26).
The league meet was the end of the season for most of the team, with the top eight male and female runners continuing on to the State Coaches Invitational on November 7 and the eastern Mass. divisional meet on November 14.
