Area towns looking for coalition coordinator

By

The communities of Canton, Stoughton, Holbrook, and Walpole have applied for and received a state grant to finance the appointment of a full-time substance abuse coalition coordinator to coordinate activities within the four towns. Canton Fire Chief Charlie Doody said the coordinator will mobilize the four communities to help prevent alcohol and drug abuse among local youth.

The communities have banded together to form the Substance Abuse Prevention Collaborative and the grant will go toward activities, surveys, training, and research assessment activities.

The coalition has begun advertising for the position with the goal of appointing a coordinator by the end of the summer. Applicants should send a letter and resume to Karen MacDonald of the Stoughton Youth Commission, PO Box 582, Stoughton, MA 02072 or email her at kmacdonald@stoughton-ma.gov.

In related news, both the Canton Police and Fire departments reported no drug overdoses or use of Narcan by police officers and paramedics between July 5 and July 13.
