School Committee calls for Common Core info meeting

By

On Monday, July 13, at 6 p.m., the Canton School Committee will hold an informational session for committee members to learn about the Common Core implementation for mathematics and English language arts. Interim Superintendent Jen Henderson and Interim Curriculum Director Jayne Moore will present the program. The committee still plans to meet in regular session on Thursday, July 30.

Christine McMahon named interim JFK principal

One of the last appointments for outgoing School Superintendent Jeff Granatino was the appointment of Christine McMahon to serve as interim principal at the Kennedy Elementary School for the 2015-16 school year. McMahon is replacing Sarah Collmer, who resigned to take a principal post in Lincoln. McMahon has been a team chair/administrator in the district since 2012, first at the Hansen and then at the JFK. She previously served as vice principal at the Matthew Kuss Middle School in Fall River and as special education team facilitator at the Resiliency Prep High School in Fall River.

McMahon, who is certified as a principal/assistant principal, has a CAGS degree in administration from American International College in Springfield, along with a master’s in special education from Bridgewater State University. Granatino said McMahon has worked closely with Collmer and Interim Curriculum Director Jayne Moore on the administrative team at the JFK for the past two years.

“She is familiar with the JFK community and is a strong administrator in our district,” Granatino said. “The appointment of Ms. McMahon will allow a smooth transition for the school and district during the 2015-16 school year.”
