Kudos to CHS student council for successful ‘senior prom’

By

Dear Editor:

“Dance like no one is laughing” has pretty much been my motto whenever I go where there’s dancing, so it was a pleasure to see that the student council members at Canton High School felt the same way. They put on a “senior prom” for the seniors at the Council on Aging Friday evening, and it was a fabulous occasion for both of the generations. Not only did the students wait on the seniors, bringing them their pizza and soft drinks, with dessert, but they also did everything they could to give us a great time. They decorated the hall, they had a trivia contest, they searched for the music we requested, and when I asked if they would please join us on the dance floor, they enthusiastically did so!

Such an outgoing group of students. The town can be proud of the kids from the high school who made this a success. I thoroughly enjoyed the “prom” and every interaction I had with these young people. One willingly took a dance lesson from me, a slow waltz/basic box step; others did the “Twist” with me, and the floor was mobbed when music for the “Electric Slide” was produced. They picked that up quickly — a line dance that they didn’t know. Thank you to everyone who put in time and effort to make this inter-generational event so much fun; you can be proud of its success.

Sincerely,

Karen Hawkins
