After a week that saw Oliver Ames and Stoughton exact revenge for early season losses, the CHS baseball team delivered some of their own revenge against Milford, beating the Hawks last Wednesday 16-9 on the road.

Going into this week, the Bulldogs stood at 7-9 and needed to win three of their final four games in order to make the playoffs.

Last Monday at OA, Canton went from being tied 5-5 after five innings to losing in a rout 20-5 and using up far more pitching than the team could afford to go through. Kevin Powers had two hits with two doubles in the loss, while Pat Vartanian had a triple and a run scored.

Powers continued his hot hitting on Wednesday against Milford, belting two homeruns, the second of which was estimated at 390 feet. Griffin Jerrier also had a big day at the plate, finishing a homerun short of the cycle with three hits and five RBIs. Jerrier also started and pitched six innings for the win. Senior Steve Bonica had two hits with two RBIs and two runs scored, and junior Jimmy Hamrock started his first game of the year, going 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Friday’s game against Stoughton was a lengthy battle that saw the Bulldogs strike out 10 times as a team en route to a 4-1 defeat. A foul ball by Vartanian that landed six inches away from being a two-run triple was the closest Canton came to getting back in the game. Sean Doyle was tagged with the loss, giving up seven hits over 4 1/3 innings. The Bulldogs only amassed four hits against Stoughton and were 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position.

The Bulldogs were due to face Sharon on senior night on Monday, May 18, followed by an away game versus Dedham this Friday at 3:30 p.m. Canton will then close out the season with a home game next Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. against King Philip and an away game Friday, May 29, against Foxboro.
