Jen Henderson named interim school superintendent

By

Jen Henderson, the Canton Public Schools’ current director of curriculum and instruction, has been named interim superintendent effective July 1, the date that current School Superintendent Jeff Granatino leaves to run the Marshfield Public Schools.

The appointment is subject to contract negotiations. School Committee Chairman Bob Golledge Jr. and Granatino acknowledged at the April 30 committee meeting that Henderson is interested in the position.

“Jen is a tremendous educator and a dedicated, tireless employee and a great fit,” Granatino said. “This will make for a nice transition.”

Golledge said the committee decided to begin the search for the next superintendent in late summer/early fall to draw from a wider talent pool that is expected to swell after the summer.

School Committee member John Bonnanzio will lead a search committee made up of committee members, teachers and parents, as well as municipal leaders and community members to screen applicants and recommend final candidates to the School Committee. It is expected that Henderson will be named interim superintendent for one year.
