Murphy earns 3rd ECAC All-Region honor

For the third time in her career, Canton native Olivia Murphy, a junior forward on the UMass Boston women’s basketball team, has been recognized on the ECAC Division III New England Women’s Basketball All-Star team, the ECAC announced last week.

olivia murphyThe 2012 ECAC New England Rookie of the Year earned her second consecutive Second Team selection. With the honor, Murphy is now the only Beacon to have earned three All-Region selections, and she’s been recognized three times by both the ECAC and D3Hoops.com.

Murphy’s latest honor adds to a list of accomplishments this spring that includes being the first Beacon to ever be named to the New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA) All-Region Team and becoming the fourth Beacon in program history to earn two Little East Conference (LEC) First Team selections.

The former Canton High standout led the LEC with 10.4 rebounds per game and ranked fifth in the conference with 13.9 points per game. She also led the LEC in blocks per game (1.6) and ranked among the top five in offensive rebounds per game (4.1) and field goal percentage (46.6 percent).

In 28 contests, Murphy registered a career-high 17 double-doubles, including 11 double-doubles in 17 contests against conference opponents.
