Brauninger named principal at Hansen

By

One day after the March 12 School Committee meeting, Superintendent Jeff Granatino named current interim Hansen Principal David Brauninger to the permanent principal position pending successful negotiations. On Thursday night, Granatino had announced that Brauninger was one of two finalists and that the final selection would come shortly.

Brauninger, who has been the interim principal at the Hansen since the end of November, replaced Peter Boucher, who left to become the athletic director at Milford High School.

Brauninger previously served as the student services coordinator at Canton High School for three years. While in this role he supervised the implementation and development of curriculum within the Student Services Department; chaired all special education team meetings; and was responsible for the supervision and evaluation of student services staff, including teachers, educational assistants, adjustment counselors, school psychologists, and speech and language pathologists.

Prior to his arrival in Canton, he was a special education teacher in the Franklin Public Schools for six years. He holds a master’s degree in education from Simmons College, a second master’s in organizational management from Endicott College, and he completed an administrative licensure program through the Massachusetts Secondary School Administrators Association.

Granatino said since taking over as interim principal, Brauninger has shown great leadership skills and has gained the confidence of the students, staff and parents within the Hansen community. He and his team have continued the work of the school’s Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and moved forward in year two of the new Model Educator Evaluation System. He has also worked with staff and parents in bringing forth the second year of enVision MATH.

Jen Henderson, director of curriculum and instruction, led the search committee, which included School Committee Chair Cindy Thomas, Student Services Director Deb Bromfield, GMS Principal William Conard, JFK Principal Sarah Collmer, Hansen Assistant Principal Mary Cawley, Hansen teachers Yan Yii and Claire Lund, elementary home/school interventionist Katie Doherty, and Hansen parents Myriam Francoeur and Michelle Roberts.
