Canton girls travel hoop team invited to states

After tearing through the regular season with a perfect 23-0 record, the Canton fifth grade girls “A” basketball team is headed to the state tournament. The girls, coached by Michelle Gallery and assistants Joanna Darling and David Donlon, easily captured first place in the South Shore Youth Basketball League — outscoring opponents by an average margin of 38-13. Most recently, the team won all five of its games at the Foxboro tournament, with convincing wins over Division 1 teams such as Braintree, Marlboro, and Norwood. The team is now preparing for the league playoffs this coming weekend, followed by the state tournament a week later in Danvers.
