More than a dozen members of the Canton High girls ice hockey team traveled to the Cape last Thursday to participate in the annual New Year’s Day Polar Plunge at Milway Beach in Barnstable. The girls braved the sub-freezing temperatures and took a dip in the Atlantic as a show of support for the Glenna Kohl Fund for Hope, a local nonprofit organization that aims to raise awareness about the dangers of melanoma. Kohl, a Marstons Mills native, was only 26 when she succumbed to the disease in 2008. CHS assistant girls hockey coach Courtney Caulfield, a close friend and former college roommate of Kohl’s, serves as the foundation’s awareness initiative director.
