By

In two separate incidents, firefighters were called to extinguish a pellet and wood stove fire. The first incident occurred at a Dedham Street residence on Wednesday, November 19, around 10:30 a.m., and the second incident took place at a Dunbar Street home on Sunday morning, November 23. In both instances, there was smoke emanating from the stove and firefighters also found high levels of carbon monoxide in the home. Firefighters extinguished the fire/smoke in both stoves and ventilated the homes.

In other CFD news last week, Canton firefighters aided in overhaul and cleanup operations at a house fire in Randolph on November 17 and at a large apartment fire in Norwood on November 21. At the second fire, a Norwood firefighter sustained an injury after falling off a roof. None of the four Canton firefighters sent to the fire were injured.

Firefighters and police cleared the building at 1:38 p.m.

Fire Department recognizes Canton youths

The Canton Fire Department issued plaques of appreciation and selectmen read proclamations recognizing the efforts of Canton ninth graders W.T. Khoury and Matt Casamento at the November 18 selectmen’s meeting. While walking through Canton Center on Monday evening, November 1, they spotted a fire inside a nail salon and promptly contacted the Fire Department. One placed a call on his cell phone and the other pulled a nearby fire alarm.

Fire Chief Charlie Doody said without their quick action, the fire could have spread to other homes and businesses and endangered other residents. The two honorees are pictured below with their parents, Jim and Eva Casamento and Dorice and Michael Khoury, and Chief Doody.
