Born in Cambridge, Betty was raised in Dorchester and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School. She earned her teaching degree from Emmanuel College, Class of 1945, and a master’s in teaching from Boston University in 1946. Professor Mahoney taught Spanish at Stonehill College for 36 years and at Emmanuel College for 12 years, retiring from teaching in 1995 …
