Smedile, Eileen

Eileen Smedile (O’Keeffe), of Canton, died April 19, 2014, with her family by her side at Steward Norwood Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Golden, a village in Tipperary, Ireland, she came to the U.S. as a young woman. Eileen worked as a registered nurse for over 50 years at Faulkner Hospital and for several local nursing homes until retiring in 2004.

Daughter of the late Daniel and Mary O’Keeffe. Devoted wife of Vincent P. Smedile of Canton. Loving mother of Erin M. Gleason and her husband, Stephen, of Canton, and Michael D. Smedile of Canton. Sister of Hannah Moloney and her husband, Simon, of Cloughaleigh, Tipperary, Mary Butler and her husband, John, of Dundrum, Tipperary, Daniel O’Keeffe and his wife, Martina, of Golden, Tipperary, and Seamus O’Keeffe of Farranamanagh, Tipperary. Proud grandmother of Caitlin and Sean Gleason of Canton.

Visiting hours in the Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman Street, Thursday, April 24, from 4-8 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, April 25, at 10:30 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Interment Knollwood Memorial Park. If desired, donations may be made in Eileen’s memory to the Carmelites, 61 Mount Pleasant Ave., Roxbury, MA 02119.
