No one was injured and an investigation is continuing into a tractor trailer fire that occurred on Monday, February 17, around 7:30 p.m. at Abbott-Avon Packaging, located at 10 Campanelli Circle near the Canton SportsPlex. Nine firefighters, three engines, and Fire Chief Charlie Doody responded to the scene. Doody earlier this week termed the origin of the fire as suspicious.

DPW receiving limited salt deliveries

Like every other community, the Canton DPW is receiving limited road salt deliveries, and DPW Superintendent Mike Trotta said more plows will be sent out to scrape the roads until additional salt is delivered. Trotta said the DPW received small deliveries on Sunday and Monday amounting to 60 tons of salt in advance of Tuesday’s snowstorm, which was due to cover Canton roads with anywhere between one and three inches. Trotta said a typical storm requires 250 to 400 tons of salt, adding that side roads may be more snow covered than usual. Trotta is hoping warmer weather later in the week will help the situation. “We have a tremendous amount on back order (1,000 tons) and we are using two vendors,” he said, “but we don’t know if they have it or how much we will get every day. Every city and town is going through this. It is an industry-wide problem.”

CPD to host Internet safety program for parents

The Canton Police Department will present “Internet Safety for Parents” on Monday, March 3, at 7 p.m. in the Canton High School library. Topics will include the risks involved with improper Internet usage, current trends, and prevention tips. The presentation should last approximately 45 minutes and will be followed by a question and answer session.

This event is open to all parents in the community, but children will not be allowed to attend. Those who plan to attend should send a courtesy email to Sgt. Chuck Rae at crae@town.canton.ma.us.
