News Notes: 2 break-ins reported at downtown salons
By Mike BergerTwo downtown hair salons were burglarized over a five-day span last week. Break-ins were reported at Savoy Salon, 635 Washington Street, on Saturday, December 21, at 11:20 p.m. and the Mane Event, 590 Washington Street, on Thursday, December 26, at 11 a.m. Entrance to both buildings was gained through a rear window and cash was taken. Police Lt. Patty Sherrill said there are no suspects as of yet, although both incidents remain under investigation.
Truck gets stuck under Bolivar St. bridge
Firefighters and employees from Pat’s Towing Co. worked to free a truck that had become stuck under the Bolivar Street bridge on Thursday, December 26, around 11 p.m. No injuries were reported, and Fire Lt. Donald Lester said there was no structural damage to the bridge. The road was closed for three hours.
In other news, a contingent of firefighters led by Deputy Chief Scott Johnson responded to a two-alarm house fire in Norwood on Monday, December 23, around 7 a.m. Firefighters assisted Norwood with ground operations and ventilation.
Police Dept. awaits visit from state accreditation commission
Officials from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission will visit the Canton Police Department January 15 and 16 to review the department’s policies and procedures. This is the first time that the CPD will undergo accreditation — a voluntary, self-initiated process by which police departments strive to meet certain established standards.
