Should Canton have a dog park?

By

Do you want a dog park in Canton? The Canton Community Preservation Committee has received and approved a pre-application to create a dog park in town.

dog parkThe town-wide survey asking residents for their preferences and support for CCPC projects showed that a dog park was among the top wishes. Canton Veterinary Clinic veterinarian Michelle Belisle submitted the initial application and will be assisting the supporters.

Many surrounding towns, including Sharon and Randolph, have dog parks that are widely used by local residents. If you feel it is time for Canton to have a place for dogs to run free and socialize off leash in a large fenced-in park, please join the Canton Dog Park supporters on Wednesday, November 13, at 7 p.m. in the Community Room at the Canton Public Library.

The group will work on the application to the CCPC as well as construction, location and funding sources. For questions, please email CCPC Vice Chairperson Kathy Fox Alfano at kfoxalfano@jackconway.com.

Would not be my top choice – I do not have a dog!
That said -not a bad use. I would vote for it – over the tennis courts – which honestly should be fixed by rec department / school board & not from CPA funds. However – I still have seen nothing on utilizing existing concerns. Parking & signs & markers. And more trails & boat ramps. Canton has resources – lets see if we can utilize them better. It would not take much to make Canton a top flight community. Empheris on history and environmental. Thats the way to go. Canton has a skating rink. They have a pool. They have playgrounds. They have the Blue Hills. We have a new senior center -and a new park at the old airport – being built. We are very lucky. We have recently paid for the center of town to be cleaned up / rehabbed. We have paid for a new public works garage. What is needed is the little things. I been impressed by the recreational department – Halloween parade was great as was 4th of July celebration. However they have their job and the CPA has theirs – lets not mix them – they are seperate.
