July 4th Celebration

By

Canton celebrated the July 4th holiday on the grounds of the Irish Cultural Centre last Thursday evening. The event featured games, face painting and musical entertainment by Classic Trax and the Wolff Sisters and was capped off with a gala fireworks display.

Earlier in the day, approximately 100 runners braved the heat and humidity to participate in the annual Canton July 4th Road Race, which started and finished at the Canton Town Club.

John Goodwin of Andover was the overall race winner (pictured above), finishing in just under 33 minutes, while Canton’s Andrea Widberg was the first woman to cross the finish line in 36:20. Nine-year-old Colin Alessi of Stoughton won the 1.8-mile fun run in 11:15.
