The Canton Community Theatre invites local residents to its next Dessert Theatre evening, “Just Desserts.” The show will be presented Friday and Saturday evenings, February 8-9 and 15-16, at 7:30 p.m. at the CCT’s new space next to The Shoe Dept. at the Village Shoppes in Canton.

“People loved our last Dessert Theatre, ‘Death by Chocolate,’ so much that we wanted to bring you another fun and tasty production,” said CCT Chair Renee Hanscom reports.

Written by Hanscom and Kathy Fox Alfano, with contributions by Kelsey Oates and the cast, “Just Desserts” takes place on the set of a Reality Baking TV show called BabyCakes and Sweetie Pies. It’s the finale and three bakers compete to win the grand prize.

The bakers are Marla Bean (Dottie Shea), whose creations somehow always include a stick of butter, Coco (Fox Alfano), a master chocolatier, and Rocco (Rich Morton), who believes all desserts should feature liquor. Each baker has an assistant who may or may not help, including Jacqueline (Nicole Carbone) imported from Paris, Bunny (Amanda Rockwell), a Real Housewives wannabe, and Jessica (Jena Walsh), owner of the Clean Fresh and Easy Raw Food Market in Cambridge.

Judging the tasty creations are Tyler Stevens (Steve Small), Samantha Strong (Cynthia Small), and guest celebrity judge Marcia Stewart (Patty Willis). Keeping the show on track are the producer (Hanscom), host (Fred Posner), and the crew (Joey Ryan, Kyle Hanscom and Sabrina Gates). Hilariously, the show does not stay on track and laughter, mystery and cake ensues. The audience will taste all the bakers’ fabulous creations and help vote for the winner.

“We know the show and we still can’t get through a scene without laughing, so I’m sure the audience will have a great time,” said Fox Alfano. “Plus, at intermission, the audience gets to enjoy all our fabulous creations and vote for their favorites. We promise a very sweet night. We are so grateful to the Wilder Company for supporting our theatre … they are so generous.”

“This has definitely been a fun experience for me,” said Rockwell, a CCT newcomer. “My character has made me (and the cast) laugh during this process, so I can’t wait to see if the audience loves her as much as she loves herself!”

“What a treat,” exclaimed Cynthia Small, who plays one of the judges. “An opportunity to create a script from scratch, and have my real-life sweetie as my romantic partner in crime. A real recipe for fun for audience and cast alike.”

With perennial cast favorites and newcomers from Canton, Milton, Sharon, Walpole and Medfield, “Just Desserts” is a real treat … come and see why. With laughter, mystery and cake, what could go wrong? The show is rated “E” for everyone!

Tickets are $15 each and include all the cake tastings (they will try to have sugar free, egg free, and gluten free cake available as well). Tickets can be purchased in advance at cantoncommunitytheatre.org (strongly encouraged as there is limited seating), or at the door.
