Save Canton’s past by voting Yes for CPA on April 3

By

Dear neighbors:

I will vote “Yes” to adopt the Community Preservation Act (CPA) at our upcoming town election because I love the quality of life in our town. And particularly during these tough economic times, it makes good fiscal sense to take advantage of this law to help communities take back control and decision making around the spending that makes our town special to us.

Canton is a beautiful community with many natural and historic resources, great neighborhoods and schools, and an increasingly vibrant downtown. In the past, we’ve had the resources to maintain and improve our community. But lately, we’ve lost some control over our own growth and development because of lack of funds. Now developers sometimes decide how to use our historic sites, how many affordable housing units to build, and whether or not to donate land for community recreation. Adoption of the CPA would help Canton take back control of its limited resources and development by creating a dedicated fund for Canton that will stretch local tax dollars with state matching grants. It just makes so much cents.
